MS Amlin × GBTEC: From Process Mapping to a Living Business Blueprint

Process modelling is not about drawing flowcharts. It is about building a living blueprint of the business – one that answers the questions the Executive Committee is asking today, and the ones it will ask tomorrow.

Challenge

As part of its transformation journey, MS Amlin's Business Architecture and Analysis team needed to answer a consistent set of strategic questions across the organisation:

  • What are our IT and operational costs today – and what should they look like in the future?
  • Where are our critical risks and vulnerabilities?
  • Which capabilities require further investment?
  • How does customer data move through the organisation end-to-end?
  • How can we create greater value for customers and the business?

Answering these questions required more than isolated process diagrams or project-based documentation. MS Amlin needed a connected view of the organisation that linked business processes, applications, data, risks and organisational structures in a single source of truth.

At the same time, insights needed to be easily accessible to executive stakeholders. The goal was clear: move beyond sporadic process mapping and establish a governed, continuously maintained business blueprint that could support transformation, decision-making and future change initiatives across the organisation.

Solution

After evaluating the BPM and EAM market, MS Amlin selected GBTEC's BIC Platform. The decision was driven by a clear set of differentiators:

  • Business-friendly modelling – enabling business analysts and subject-matter experts to create BPMN 2.0-compliant models with minimal training
  • Executive-ready insights – delivering board-level visualisations directly within the platform
  • A unified view of the business – connecting processes, applications, data, risks and controls in a single source of truth
  • A strong partnership – supported by GBTEC teams in both the UK and Germany throughout the implementation journey

The proof of concept arrived quickly. MS Amlin's Executive Committee had requested a single navigable view of all end-to-end processes — conceptually similar to the London Underground map.

During the trial phase, the team was able to prototype this vision directly within BIC and present it to senior leadership. The response was immediate. The concept was endorsed by executive stakeholders and became the catalyst for a wider rollout across the organisation.

The completed MS Amlin Process Map is now the definitive, highest-level BPM view in the organisation — a shared reference for processes and value chains that has been positively received by senior leaders and operational teams alike. Importantly, it was built and presented entirely within BIC, demonstrating the platform's ability to support both modelling and C-suite communication from a single tool.

Concrete Benefits

  • Executive-level transparency through a navigable enterprise-wide process map that supports strategic decision-making
  • Governed process management with formal ownership, change control and ongoing maintenance replacing fragmented documentation practices
  • Stronger transformation delivery by providing project teams with a reliable current-state baseline for change initiatives
  • A connected foundation for BPM and EAM, linking business processes, applications, data, risks and controls in a single source of truth

With a connected BPM foundation in place, MS Amlin is evolving process management into a strategic business capability, one that provides the visibility, governance and intelligence needed to guide transformation across the organisation. MS Amlin demonstrates how organisations can move beyond process documentation and establish a strategic capability that connects business architecture, enterprise architecture and executive decision-making.

Key Highlights

  • Enterprise process map delivered — C-suite endorsed
  • ~1,000 process models targeted in Year 1
