Challenge

The long-established engineering company went through a challenging phase of redesigning its workflows and was striving for comprehensive automation. As part of the intranet overhaul, all processes were redesigned in BPMN with the goal of seamlessly transforming them into digital workflows. The company faced a number of challenges:

  • Professionalization of process management, combined with specific requirements for integrated solutions and automation components that are not based on traditional programming and can therefore be operated by non-IT experts.
  • Implementation of a process document management system, including the digitization of a large number of documents and their integration into digital workflows to promote a paperless organization and increase operational efficiency.
  • Finding solutions to transfer the newly revised process models directly from BPMN into digital workflows without the need for additional process steps.

Solution

As part of a comprehensive process review, automation potential was identified in collaboration with the business managers and relevant processes were directly transferred into digital workflows – without time-consuming workflow modeling or complex programming. As a result, more than twenty processes from various areas such as logistics (e.g., internal goods transport), organization (e.g., visitor registration) and HR (e.g., employee training) were automated within a brief period of time, leading to a noticeable increase in efficiency.
