Global Business Process Management: Thanks to the BIC Platform LEONI confidently faces the future

LEONI

As a provider of products and solutions for energy and data management in the automotive industry, LEONI is in the midst of a significant transformation of its Wiring Systems Division after some turbulent financial years. A core element of the realignment is centralized process management, supported by the BPM suite BIC Platform. The software's process portal enables the division-wide standardization and harmonization of processes to be driven forward, thus strengthening the link between the organization as well as processes and consequently process orientation at LEONI. The BIC Platform thus provides the company with the optimal basis for the challenges of the future.

Intuitive process management system convinces right from the start

"In our search for a BPM system for the global setup of process management, the BIC Platform quickly convinced us both in terms of our technical requirements and usability. We were able to reproduce our tested use cases in the software quickly and without much need for support - this was very important for us. When testing the pilot processes, we received a lot of positive feedback from our internal team. Personally, I am always impressed by the intuitive usability of the tool. The partnership-based cooperation with GBTEC since the beginning and the decades of experience of the consultants we can rely on also strengthen our process management goals enormously."

The challenge

Back on track, with a process-oriented approach

LEONI, the global supplier to the automotive industry, is going through difficult times: In recent years, the company has had to contend with the challenges of very ambitious growth targets and a complex organizational structure as well as the effects of the pandemic and the semiconductor crisis. The Group has initiated a comprehensive transformation to increase efficiency within the company. With a newly launched process management initiative, LEONI is focusing on a new approach: the new business process model is optimally aligned with the company's value creation and strategy, thus combining organization and processes in a completely new way. In order to do justice to this new approach, standardization and optimization of process documentation are also essential. Instead of continuing to work with different tools such as Visio, Excel or PowerPoint, the cable and wiring system specialist was looking for a process management system in which all business processes could be documented in a uniform and system-supported manner. The following main objectives were at the forefront for the automotive supplier:

  • Intuitive usability with regard to modeling and user portal
  • High transparency of processes and responsibilities for all employees
  • Central access for all to a standardized platform across the company
  • Simple variant handling as well as process and document linking

The solution

Process management with the BIC Platform: One tool that fulfills all wishes

In an extensive selection process, LEONI worked with external consultants to draw up a catalog of requirements with over 100 desired functions and independently tested the favored tools. Among the three test candidates, the cloud-based BPM suite BIC Platform from GBTEC quickly stood out as the most convincing solution. The software impressed with its intuitive handling, the simple modeling of use cases without a great deal of training, and its usability as an integrated management system. With the BIC Process Design module, LEONI restructured the company's process landscape from the bottom up. With a focus on functional modeling, a process map with harmonized and standardized processes has been created that is aligned with the company's value creation. To ensure that every user will be able to find their way around the process management system in the future, the company has already created several e-learning videos with basic knowledge as well as quick guides on how to use the software and has held various training courses on the subject of process management.

The benefit

Stronger into the future with transparent process management

Modern BPM in BIC Platform is one of the key levers LEONI is using to completely re-engineer its company-wide process structure and organizational setup. The newly built, living process map will for the most part contain standardized processes for the more than 100 sites around the globe. However, local process variants, for example in the case of different legal requirements at individual sites, are possible. The language is also standardized: The global rollout of the processes will take place in the corporate language of English, with additional work instructions in the respective national language only being provided if necessary. In particular, the increased transparency of the process landscape, the document link for transactions and the browser-based system represent an enormous advantage for the company: Employees worldwide, who can automatically register as users via single sign-on, can find all documents in a central location and can also quickly access relevant content from their home office. The change view makes it easy to track revisions, ensuring the quality of the company's products and services with audit-proof adaptations and standards-compliant process governance. For a pre-live with around 4,500 users and initial pilot processes, the BPM team received a lot of positive feedback and is therefore confident that employees will quickly experience their own successes with the software after the full roll-out. In the future, the company would like to focus not only on continuously improving processes and completing the business process model, but also on digitalizing processes that were previously controlled manually. To this end, LEONI is planning a "proof of value" with BIC Process Execution, the module for automated workflows in BIC Platform, in order to evaluate the possibilities of holistic control and handling of manual processes and individual workflows from BIC Platform.
