Challenge

MAHLE International GmbH has transformed from a small piston manufacturer in the 1920s into a global technology leader in the automotive industry. Today, MAHLE operates in over 30 countries, focusing on key areas such as Powertrain and Charging, Thermal and Fluid Systems, and Lifecycle and Mobility. Like many international organizations, MAHLE faced challenges in ensuring a unified, group-wide Business Continuity Management (BCM). Previously, the company dealt with:

  • Highly decentralized BCM structures with varying maturity levels across its sites
  • Lack of unified ISO standards and policies
  • No central cost overview or standard quality benchmarks
  • Manual, Excel-based processes with inconsistent templates and limited transparency

Solution

To address these challenges, MAHLE implemented a centrally managed BCMS (Business Continuity Management System) using BIC GRC. The collaboration began with a successful PoC (Proof of Concept), during which GBTEC analyzed MAHLE's existing Excel and Word templates and demonstrated how these could be transformed into standardized workflows and templates aligned with BSI 200-4 standards. The result is a tailored solution that reflects MAHLE’s specific organizational structure and terminology.

  • Unified documentation and quality standards across all sites
  • Advanced BIA (Business Impact Analysis) directly in the tool
  • Robust BCP (Business Continuity Planning) functionality with easy administration
  • High organizational acceptance through comprehensive user manuals

Key Highlights

  • Rapid and seamless transition from Excel-based processes to a centralized BCM system
  • High user acceptance thanks to user-friendly interface, detailed manuals, and responsive GBTEC support
  • Strategic rollout plan in three phases, with plans to integrate IT asset-based risk assessment in the near future
